It’s that time of year where we all start thinking of the holidays, so what better way to get your Holiday spirit than a great Helmar Holiday Hop? Filled with so much Holiday cheer and some amazing projects featuring all the different Helmar Adhesives.
Hello everyone and welcome to my stop on the Helmar Holiday Hop. If you have been following along, you should have hopped here from Carisa’s blog. If not, you just have to stop at the Helmar Blog and start from the beginning. There are goodies along the way and we don’t want you to miss a thing.
I am Using Helmar Fabric Stiffener and Wash and wear fabric Glue in my couple of little projects today.
These will serve as a gift for my niece for Christmas!!!
Now That the fabric is dry, run it through a die cutting machine and cut out some flower shapes.
I used wash and wear glue to adhere the 'flower' shapes together in the centres.
Then adhere them to the bracelet with the same glue.
now getting back to all those die cut shapes........
Now I am going to adhere these together to create flowers.
I also added a roughly cut circle of lace to the layers, to bulk them out a little!
I glued the entire thing on the t-shirt with the 'wash and wear' glue, being careful not to put too much on so it didn't seep out the edges. I slid a craft mat inside the shirt too, so that the glue would not go through to the back either....(which I had no trouble with!!!!)
I was quite happy with the result, for a gift for christmas. One present down....heaps more to go!!!!!! LOL
NOW.........
Make sure you leave a comment at every stop because the elves of Helmar will be giving away prizes to some lucky Helmar fans. Now hop on over to Natashas’s blog to see another amazing Helmar Holiday project. The Holiday Hop will be open for comments until 11:59P.S.T December 4th , so take a look and enjoy a little holiday spirit from all of us on the Helmar Team. Thanks again for stopping by today and Happy Holidays.
EDITED TO ADD
Post washing troubleshooting........
Its always fun when you create something and it doesn't quite go the way you planned.......I washed this little shirt, just to see how it would fare......my first tip would be to hand wash any glue appliqued piece you create. Washing seems to be a little too rough.
In retrospect.....Fabric stiffener is NOT meant to be washed. It stiffens, then is meant to be left alone to stay stiff!!!! It did make it fabulous to run through the big shot, and that technique was great and I will do it again! Relying on it while washing though......not so much!
The Wash and Wear fabric glue......the base flowers stuck well, with just a very thin even layer of the glue. Where I piled on the glue heavily, when it was wet it became soggy and lifted off. So thin and evenly coated is the key to this product.
My next tip is nothing to do with product, but fabric cutting and die choice. I would NOT cut intricate cuts. where there were thin edges on my project, is where the fabric frayed all the way through in places. Leaving a bit of a mess. I would cut wide open shapes.....and next time I will add stitches here and there to hold securely.
I do plan to ressurrect this project, rather than bin it, as much has stayed in place, and I will add some hand stitching to the areas I noted had frayed. I will sew the buttons on, and this will hold the flowers together. On a good note.....washing made the fabric edges fray beautifully!!!! AND the flowers would look fabulous, if I had not used too much glue and had them fall apart.
So hopefully my mistakes and solves will make this project be successful for any one who wants to create something for Christmas. Like I said, I think it will work fine with the alterations I suggested, and I will continue to work on this project. I WILL give it to my niece for Christmas. LOL
